Ted Cockle, the Virgin EMI president, spoke to british site Music Week about Katy Perry’s new album. According to him, the popstar is working on her new material with no pressure at all. The approach for this era is “have some fun making music and be excited about the songs”. Cockle also said that the “Witness” successor “will come in its own fine time”.
“‘Never Really Over’ is completely on brand for Katy, radio and the public are registering that and are pleased that it’s a welcome return for her,” claimed Ted Cockle. “We heard the song and thought it was a wonderful song in the artillery of Katy Perry. She is funny, sharp as a button, supremely entertaining. She was able to come over a couple of weeks ago and just spend time with people, play them the song and other songs as well that gave them confidence that this is not a one-off situation. There’s plenty of goodness to come.”
Katy Perry’s new single debuted at #13 on the british singles chart, marking her highest solo entry since 2017. Besides that, “Never Really Over” also debuted at #8 on the UK airplay chart and is currently playing on Radio BBC 1 and Radio BBC 2.
