Beyoncé and Jay-Z are going to be honored at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards. The couple will receive the Vanguard Award for their “significant difference in promoting of LGBT+ people”, said the promoters.
The GLAAD Awards recognize the role of artists and media vehicles in advocating for LGBT policies and against discrimination.
“Beyoncé and Jay-Z are global icons and passionate defenders of human rights and acceptance for all people”, said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO. “When Beyoncé and Jay-Z speak, the world becomes inspired and when it comes to LGBTQ people, their voices of acceptance have been heard loud and clear. We could not be prouder to stand with them to send a message of love during the biggest LGBTQ event in the world and to honor their work to bend the arc of justice forward for LGBTQ people, people of color, and marginalized communities everywhere”, she added.
The 30th Annual GLAAD Media Award ceremony is set to March 28th in Los Angeles.
Madonna will also be honored at this year’s awards, but she will receive her award at the New York ceremony on May 4th. GLAAD will give the Queen of Pop the Advocate For Change Award for always being an ally of the community, including fighting stigma during the global HIV crisis.
